Friends, be aware that we’ve had a date change for the appreciation of museum volunteers. The event will NOT be held Saturday, April 1, as originally planned.

The museum will let the Friends know when a firm replacement date is set, likely in June. With or without a ceremony, we appreciate those of you who donate time and funds to the NV State Museum LV!

In late March, several buses ferried fourth-grade pupils from Vegas Verdes Elementary School to the museum for a tour of the galleries and related academic activities, thanks to our School Bus Trip program.

To date, Friends have donated enough to fund 13 bus trips.

We thank the two Friends who have each most recently donated the full $175 cost of a bus trip. They are Nancy Brady and Margurite Walton.

Another recent donation to fully fund a bus trip came from Steven Marzullo, attorney at law.

     Way to go, you three!

On Sunday (March 12), nature photographer Sharon K. Schafer will host the opening reception for her project, which created a cultural exchange between pupils, age 8 through 12, in northwest India and Las Vegas. She worked with school teachers in each locale to achieve the cultural exchange that’s at the heart of her new photo exhibit.

The exhibit, “Two Deserts, One Sky,” combines nature shots taken by students in each location. At the reception Schafer will give a brief talk and show some of her own India photographs.

Sunday’s event will run 2-4 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas. The exhibit is on through April 30.

You can donate to the Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas through “Nevada Big Give,” which is the annual online donation campaign powered by United Way of Southern Nevada. Yes, the Friends’ 501c3 status means you can contribute financially to our organization and list it as a charitable contribution on your federal income tax form.

Look at the menu bar to the left, and click on “Donate During Nevada Big Give,” at the top of menu bar, to learn how the Friends will use your donation. There you also can click directly to the Friends’ Big Give donation screen. The Big Give runs through March 23.

Please help our young organization grow!

Recently the Nevada State Museum Las Vegas has been doing live video interviews of curators, to acquaint its Internet audience with the museum’s resources and staff.

The museum expanded its interview pool when it invited the Friends to explain on Facebook Live just how we support the museum. So Joan Whitely, Friends vice president, did a bit of Q and A with Ilana Short, who curates the museum’s photographs. Here’s the result.
